Hey Fam!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! In
Germany they say, "Ich wunsche euch eine gute Rutsch!" Which means
"I hope you have a good slide (into the new year)". I don’t know why
it made me giggle every time someone said it, maybe it has something to do with
the fact that I would picture these typical business men going down a slide on
a school playground.
I hope you guys ate
some cheese, salami, and Ritz crackers for me! Did you set some New Year’s
Goals?
These past few weeks
have been crazy with the holidays. It made me look back on my first transfer in
Germany! I loved how beautiful the spirit of Christmas was and now we just have
to keep that ball rolling! Who says it has to stop? I was thinking about that
because in Germany, Christmas is celebrated from the 24th-26th. So, I woke up
on the 26th and of course the first thing that popped into my head was,
"Oh man, the fun is over. Another 364 days until Christmas." And then
I realized that it was still Christmas! It felt kind of funny because I
realized that because of tradition and our mindset WE are the ones that
put limits on things. All we have to do is decide in our hearts and our minds
that we are not going to let the spirit of Christmas die!
We received transfer
calls and Sister Magleby and I are staying together! Wahoo! This will be my
fourth transfer in Tubingen and I am super excited about it! Before we got the call,
I felt like I received several revelations for the area, so I was nervous that
I wasn't going to get to see them come to fruition, but apparently God still
has a work for me to do here!
Because the population
in Tubingen is literally like 50% students, our area has been pretty dead
because everyone has been home for the holidays, so we are super stoked that
people are starting to resurface!
Love, JJ May
Randoms:
- Germany sounded like
a war zone for a solid 48 hours due to the fireworks.
- For some reason, as
we were waiting at a bus stop, our phone decided to jump out of my pocket
undetected. The people on the Bus got to see what a frantic stressed out
missionary looks like! We jumped off a couple of stops away and made our way
back. It was no longer there so we called it and the good news is that SOMEONE
ANSWERED; the bad news is that they did not speak any German. Somehow, we
communicated enough to make a plan to meet. As we were waiting for them we saw
this adorable, tiny, middle aged Muslim woman walk up to us. She was so sweet.
She returned our phone to us and used her Google translate to tell us how she
found it! We were so grateful for her courage to go out of her way to help
other people, even though she did not know the language.
- I finished the Challenge from President Nelson
this week and it was so wonderful. I know with a surety that Jesus Christ is
leading this church. He restored his truth on the earth through his prophet
Joseph Smith. It is as simple and clear as that. Oh, how beautiful it is that
we do not have to wonder and doubt.
